One of the best parts of being a Realtor is being deeply rooted in a community. To be successful and effective in real estate you have to be engaged, invested and curious about the local neighbourhoods and people. One of the many ways in which I continue to explore my community is through volunteerism and philanthropy. I feel extremely fortunate that real estate has provided a platform for me to explore my interests in philanthropy, environmentalism and community involvement.

I was lucky enough to grow up in a household who placed a high emphasis on social action. Many locals will be familiar with CAUSE Canada and the Canmore Rocky Mountain Half-Marathon, both the charity and race were started by my wonderful parents (and long time locals) Paul and Bev Carrick. Paul and Bev retired from CAUSE Canada in 2015 but it didn’t take them long to start a new International Development Charity. This time Embrace International Foundation is focused on helping single Mothers of disabled children in Uganda and Guatemala. The organization has also partnered with Rotary Canmore to assist in programs to help local children with disabilities – recently building a sensory room at Elizabeth Rummel. It has been my longtime pleasure to provide financial support to these worthwhile causes.

In Victoria I helped found The Duttons Community Impact fund in 2016. The Duttons Community Impact Fund has provided more than $25,000 in donations to local organizations and all money raised was collected by setting aside a percentage of commission earnings. Donations were made to local organizations supporting refugees, animal rights, at-risk youth and cancer support agencies.
